Kiri Camp offers a combination of both game drives and water activities (water & flood dependant). Based on a private concession, these activities will take you to some of the more remote areas in the delta, previously inaccessible. A motorboat ride during peak flood times promises to enthrall you and captivate you, with the chance of seeing iconic wildlife from the river. Glide on quiet mokoro’s through the water lilies and view wildlife from below as you sail along at water level height. The wildlife in the Kiri area is diverse and plentiful, renown for its lion and buffalo interactions and rare wild dog numbers. As Kiri Camp is in a private concession, off road and night driving are allowed, as are armed nature walks through the surrounding islands with knowledgeable guides.
An intimate camp
Each of the eco-luxury canvas tents is positioned on elevated decks on the side of a slope offering guests privacy, comfort and unrivaled sweeping views. The camp has been designed so that the tents blend into the background, leaving the visiting animals to be the stars of the show.

Take a water-based safari in a traditionally shaped mokoro canoe and gain a different perspective on game-viewing. From water level, you'll spot creatures and details often missed from the land. *Please note that water-based activities are dependent on the season and water levels during your visit.
Big plains game and predators
Kiri is located in an area that is alive with diversity and the chance to spot big plains game, wild dog dens, large prides of lion, big herds of buffalo and recent sightings of leopard and cheetah. It’s a beauty of a scale that is hard to imagine.
Game spotting on foot
Kiri camp offers the perfect environment in which to immerse yourself in nature by taking a walking safari. Your experienced Machaba Safaris guide will draw your attention to the details that form part of a bigger story, such as beetles, animal droppings, scents, sounds and spoor.

What does this mean?
Machaba Safaris combines the authenticity of the past, the comforts of today and a future-thinking eco-awareness. Our camps feature iconic canvas tents, cooling plunge pools and communal bars and dining areas and reading nooks. We consciously forgo certain conveniences like hairdryers and air-con, and rely on alternative energy to lighten our load on the planet.
How we lighten the load
- Camp electricity is a hybrid of solar energy and a back-up generator.
- Low energy consuming appliances and light bulbs.
- No permanent fixtures means that our campsites can be rehabilitated in 1.5 years.
- Separate Bio Plants manage kitchen, laundry and staff village solids.

Tented dining and social area
The oversized tented deck area forms the social hub of our camps. You can meet other safari goers at the bar, relax in the lounges or gather around the large fire pits to swap stories, fuelling the feeling of being on an authentic African safari in the bush.
Plunge pool
Africa is a sun-drenched country where summer temperatures often reach the high thirties and low forty-degrees Celsius. After a morning safari, counting the passing clouds while floating in a pool or resting on a sun bed is nothing short of sublime.
Spa therapist
Melt into the sounds and heat of the bush as a qualified therapist conducts a relaxing facial or a massage in the comfort of your guest room.
Solar energy
We harvest the sun’s energy via solar panels, that store electricity in a battery bank. Our hot water supply is generated by a state of the art Thermodynamic Solar Energy system, which ensures that the camps have hot water, no matter the weather.
Eco-friendly kitchen and food storage
To keep our eco-footprint light, we use energy-efficient fridges in our kitchens, which we turn off at night. We also use coal cold rooms and cellars to store heat-sensitive items.
Wi-Fi Connectivity
A holiday in Africa is the perfect time to disconnect from the digital world and reconnect with nature and loved ones. Due to the remoteness of the camp there is limited connectivity available. Wifi connections available in the rooms only.
