Machaba is the Setswana name for the Sycamore Fig tree whose fruit attracts animals from afar. At Machaba Safaris we know that it’s not only the tree and her animals that need our protection, which is why we lend our support to the fragile local communities whose people have lived in these remote regions for centuries. Okavango Delta
- It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
- There are over 150 000 islands in the Delta.
- The Delta shrinks and grows up to three times in size.
A river delta typically forms where a river enters an ocean. However, the Okavango Delta’s waters never make it to the sea. It is a rare natural phenomenon in the middle of a desert that gives rise to an ever-changing tapestry of life forms throughout the year.
Chobe National Park
- Famed for its wandering leopards
- One park. Four distinctly different biomes
- One of the greatest concentrations of elephants in Africa
Chobe is the country’s most diverse park in biological terms. It’s divided into the Serondela, the Savuti Marsh, the Linyanti Marsh and hinterland regions, each with something different to explore
Hwange National Park
- Has all five of Africa’s Big Five species.
- Is home to elephant “super herds”.
- One of the largest national parks in Africa.
An hour South of Victoria Falls, Hwange National Park is the largest park in Zimbabwe. Once the royal hunting grounds of warrior-king Mzilikazi Khumalo, the Park now safeguards the world-famous elephants of Hwange – one of the largest populations on the planet.
Mana Pools National Park
- Awarded UNESCO Biosphere Reserve status
- One of the highest concentrations of wild dogs in Africa
- Exceptional walking and canoeing safari opportunities
The most remote park in the country, Mana Pools is the first Biosphere Reserve in Zimbabwe. It's known for its big herds of elephant, buffalo, endangered wild dogs, lions and the more shy leopards, cheetahs and spotted hyenas.
