Ngoma Safari Lodge Wildlife Stories April 2024

The month started with celebrating the birthday of one of our expert guides, Nelson. With cake and some unforgettable safari experiences, the month started on a high note.

The Prowess of a Leopardess

Watching any animal stalk their prey is an amazing experience. On a recent game drive, we found a female leopard stalking her prey. Crouched down underneath the grass line, she waited until she was dangerously close before ensuing the chase.

Having caught an impala, we stayed with her and watched her enjoy her spoils.

Stuck in the Mud

The call of a fish eagle alerted us to a small muddy pond near the road. The summer rains have come to an end and we are slowly starting to see the effects of the dry season in Chobe.

Upon closer inspection of the shallows of the pond, we noticed movement. Catfish! Stuck in the mud with no way out. Unfortunately for the fish, this proved easy pickings for the fish eagles. Leopards have also been known to enjoy this uncommon and usual offering.

A few days this month, a large spotted genet has been seen hunting around the lodge and we have been glad to watch him while sipping on a classic G&T as the sunsets.

Sundowners at Ngoma Safari Lodge.

As the weather turns, we welcome the cooler evenings and are starting to don many a layer to take off one by one as the day warms from the African sun.

Until next time,
