Ngoma Safari Lodge Wildlife Sightings July 2024

July has been a great month for wildlife sightings at Ngoma Safari Camp as temperatures rise. Days did get quite windy, but that didn’t stop everyone from enjoying the incredible animals on the plains.

Playful Pachyderms

It is not a secret that elephants love water. However, at this time of the year, their love for this precious resource seems heightened when we see them drinking and mud bathing along the Chobe River. On this particular occasion, we witnessed a breeding elephant herd swimming in the river mid-afternoon. This was a special moment for our guests as they saw something they had come to Chobe to see.

Better Luck Next Time

On one of our afternoon game drives, our guide Jo and his guests came across a leopardess hunting an impala. It was a very exciting moment to see the leopard stalking its prey, captivating us for approximately 30 minutes. Unfortunately, the wind was not in the leopardess’ favour. The impala caught the scent of the predator and lived to see another day.

Lovely Couple

On another game drive later in July, we heard the growls of lions near the riverfront. As we investigated the scene, one of our guests spotted them. It was a mating pair busy securing the next generation of cute little cubs’ arrival. Lions are often spotted near Ngoma Springs Camp, but seeing them mating is something truly special.

Chilling Cheetah

On one of the last afternoons in July, a message about a cheetah sighting piqued everyone’s interest. These cats are not usually spotted near Ngoma because they like larger open areas where they can sprint and catch their prey. However, we found this cheetah enjoying the shade with what looked like a full belly. What a perfect way to spot your first-ever cheetah.

Until next time,
