Gomoti Plains Camp Wildlife Sightings March 2025
It was clear skies at Gomoti Plains Camp in March. Temperatures were high, and there was some welcome rainfall to cool us and the wildlife around camp.
It was spectacular to see the floodwaters filling up the plains more and more as the month progressed. This gave our guests the chance to enjoy the vibrant green scenery and the wildlife it attracted, as well as explore the landscape on our Mokoro excursions.
Photogenic Lioness
We were searching for leopards and drove through the floodplains to where we thought we might find them. To our surprise, we found a pride of eight lions resting by a leaning shepherd tree (Boscia albitrunca). The ferocious hunters looked more like giant housecats as they rested at dawn.
One of the lionesses climbed the tree, and as she gracefully ascended, she gave us the perfect opportunity to take a few pictures.

Surprise Wild Dog Visit
We came across a pack of eight African wild dogs on one of our game drives. We followed the pack for a while but saw no signs of an impending hunt. So, we carried on a little further until it was time to turn back to camp. Little did we know, those same wild dogs would cause havoc back at camp!
When we arrived back, the pack had singled out an impala from a herd that was grazing in a nearby floodplain. The wild dogs chased the poor impala into camp and brought it down between one of our rooms and the main common area. What an amazing sighting for the guests and housekeeping staff who were watching!
A Wild Dog Curtain Call
After an incredible stay at Gomoti, it seemed like the wilderness had one last sighting for our guests before they checked out. It was right after breakfast when we noticed a commotion close to camp.
Ever the curious explorers, we decided to check it out. When we arrived at the scene, we saw a pack of wild dogs kill and eat another impala. The frenzy of teeth and snarling was not what our guests were expecting to see before checking out, but they were ecstatic all the same.
March was another great month for spotting the untamed wildlife surrounding Gomoti Plains. Let's see what April has in store for us.
Until next time,
