Mana River Camp Wildlife Stories July 2025

Mana River Camp and the Zambezi Valley have experienced cold morning and night temperatures with pleasant midday heat. Wildlife have been flocking to the Zambezi River to cool down from the day’s heat, giving us the perfect opportunity to view them from the comfort of our cool luxury tents.

Mana Pools’ Boswell

We were pleased to introduce our resident celebrity, Boswell the elephant, to some of our guests. He was busy doing what he does best, standing on his hind legs to reach for the juiciest leaves and fruit! We are so glad to have this unique sighting right at our doorstep.

Grey Heron, Great Catch

As we were looking at the magnificent Zambezi River, we spotted a grey heron trying to swallow a large catfish. Grey herons are the largest in the heron family, easily weighing up to two kilograms. Even so, the beautiful bird was struggling to get the fish into its belly. After a few more attempts, it managed to swallow the catfish.

Lion Encounter

Coming face-to-face with lions is a heart-pumping experience.

We were on a walking safari trying to track a leopard when we suddenly came across two male lions. One of them was not happy to see us at all, so we decided to back up to a safe distance and observe the pair from afar.
