Ingwe Pan Camp Wildlife Stories July 2025

Ingwe Pan Camp had pleasant weather throughout July. Mornings and evenings were fairly chilly, but the afternoons rarely got too hot. This was great for wildlife sightings as we managed to spot predators hunting their prey in the cooler hours of the day and saw them relaxing in the midday heat.

Thirsty Leopard

Night-time is when predators come out to hunt, but on this one occasion, we spotted a beautiful male leopard simply drinking water. We were mesmerised by the powerful animal’s poise while doing something so mundane.

Leopards get by with far less water than most other predators. Most of their hydration comes directly from their prey, so seeing one drink from a waterhole is a rare experience.

Lunchtime Leopards

Midway through lunch, we were told a leopard was sunbathing not far from camp. We quickly grabbed our binoculars and marvelled at the magnificent animal enjoying the warmth of the sun.

Later, we went on a game drive and spotted another female leopard hunting guinea fowl on the Eastern side of Ingwe Pan. Nothing seemed to be happening until a flock of guinea fowl arrived for a drink of water. Suddenly, another leopard pounced out of a nearby bush and caught one of the unsuspecting birds.

Lion Family Feast

It may be hard to believe, but seeing lions feast on one of Africa's most passive animals can be heartwarming experience. Let us explain…

We found a pride of lions feeding on an eland. As they were feasting, we saw the cutest cubs playing with the carcass while their mothers watched over them. Food is not easy to come by in the wilderness, so seeing this happy family enjoying a meal together is a good sign that the young ones will grow up healthy.

Call Of The Wild Dog

Later in the month, a pack of African wild dogs was spotted chasing an impala. We were tracking them when we heard the characteristic ‘hoo’ contact call. Following the sound, we found the dogs signalling to the rest of the pack. They kept calling and sniffing the ground, looking for a scent to follow.

During a hunt, African wild dogs often split up to surround and ambush their prey or chase separate animals entirely. This can happen over great distances, where their incredible sense of hearing and smell can help the pack reunite after a hunt.

Once-in-a-Lifetime Elephant Safari

Typically, safaris would take place in a specialised vehicle where guests get to sit back and take in their surroundings. In a guided safari walk, not only are you immersed in the astounding wilderness, but you are that much more connected to Mother Nature and her creatures.

Our guests experienced this amazing excursion on the final day of July and spotted a massive herd of elephants. We followed the herd as they traversed the savannah until they stopped in an open area where we found a tree to sit under and observe the majesty of those majestic mammals.
