Gomoti Plains Wildlife Stories June 2025
As the winter chill sets in, we’ve been counting on thrilling wildlife sightings to keep our temperature and adrenaline levels up and June more than delivered on that promise. The water levels are steadily rising, bringing a new kind of excitement to camp.
A Porcupine Surprise
One early morning, as our camp manager was on his wake-up call rounds, he spotted a porcupine under the decks. Having fetched a couple of guests from the nearest room, they only spotted the baby, who ran off along the pathway. Later on, we spotted mother and baby reunited, and happily munching on the shrubs.
Nocturnal Wonders
Every game drive is different, and it’s no secret that we cannot guarantee any sightings, as this is the wild, and we follow its lead.
During a night drive, guests were delighted to encounter an African wild cat, civet, aardvark and genets! Seeing just one of these elusive creatures is an unforgettable experience, but seeing this collection of nocturnal animals on a single drive was an unbelievable occurrence. One we don’t think we will be lucky enough to encounter again anytime soon.
A Leopard Mum
At Gomoti, we don’t ignore alarm calls, and in this instance, we listened and we were treated to the ultimate reward.
After hearing an impala's alarm call behind camp, we immediately went to inspect. As we reached a tree at the back of camp, we noticed a leopard stashing away her kill and leaving it there. Some time later, she returned with her two cubs, and together they feasted on the kill in contented silence.

June was filled with unforgettable wildlife encounters and we are sure there are going to be lots more exciting sightings for you next month at Gomoti Plains Camp.
Until next time,
Grant Parker
