Ngoma Safari Lodge Wildlife Stories May 2025
Mornings have been chilly here at Ngoma Safari Lodge. The floodplains are drying up and exposing the earth, and only one small channel remains. The view from the lodge changes dramatically as the landscape shifts seasons. However the seasons change the view, it is still beautiful, still awe-inspiring.

Lion Pride of Nine
The wild is full of surprises, and each game drive holds a thousand possibilities. Coming across a recent kill is an exciting moment for guests and even our seasoned guides.
A pride of nine lions killed a buffalo at the hippo pool. A stark reminder that animals in the wild will do what they need to survive.
Danger in Every Direction
While we were watching the lions feed on the buffalo, a herd of impalas entered the scene, unaware of the feast along the banks of the pool. A lioness seized the opportunity and began hunting an impala on the outskirts of the herd. With nowhere else to go, the panicked impala ran straight for the Chobe River, only to be met by another threat, a Nile crocodile.

Wallowing Hippos
As the water sources dry up and pools decrease in size, hippos are forced closer together in the water, or out underneath the winter sun’s gentler rays.
Hippo skin is very sensitive to sunlight and you’ll often find them submerged or covered in mud. With the cooler morning temperatures, we have enjoyed watching these semi-aquatic mammals on dry land.
This month saw some thrilling wildlife encounters and days spent lazily enjoying the park, we can’t help but think what next month has in store.
Until next time,
